Introducing The New Datalogic Lynx PDA

Posted December 4, 2012

Datalogic has announced their new pocketable Lynx PDA. The Lynx PDA is part of a family of full-featured, ruggedized PDA’s. This new product combines the knowledge and experience gained from all its predecessors with a very compact size and superior ergonomics.

Today’s store managers need to always be connected to their network and able to access any kind of information related to goods needed by customers. They must always be available through a voice connection. Managers are looking for a single product, which is robust and reliable, to provide all these features in a small and pocketable PDA form factor. This describes the Lynx PDA, offering a secure connection through an 802.11 b/g/n radio that is Cisco CCX v4 certified, perfect for all the latest Wi-Fi infrastructures. The Lynx PDA has a vibrant display which is the ideal size for displaying all the information needed, leaving the product size as small as possible. Powered with a new technology that improves outdoor readability, the Lynx PDA is perfect in any environment, including interior or exterior usage.

A 3G/4G (HSPA+) module (due for release in Q1 of 2013) makes the Lynx PDA an indispensable tool for all applications in an exterior setting without changing the appearance and size of the product. The Lynx PDA includes the functionality of a GPS navigation system, a cellular phone, a computer and a bar code reader, all in one single multi-purpose and ruggedized device.

The latest applications require the ability to catch information in different formats such as pictures or short videos. For this reason, the Lynx PDA is equipped with a 3M Pixel autofocus camera positioned on the back of the device. An LED flash allows use in most any lighting condition.

Unlike fragile consumer-grade mobile phones, the Lynx PDA is built to last! This rugged PDA is suited to use in most any environment or weather condition for years.

The Lynx PDA offers two different types of keyboards:

  • A numeric backlit keyboard for more traditional applications where only numbers typically need to be keyed
  • A QWERTY backlit keyboard perfect for applications that require text messaging, email or even for collecting statistics or other keyboard data entry

Datalogic ADC wants to offer value and convenience. The Lynx PDA comes out-of-the-box with a battery (the standard capacity battery @1800 mAh for the Wi-Fi configuration or the high capacity battery @3600 mAh for 3G/4G HSPA+ configurations), a micro USB cable for data transfer and a direct power supply which includes all the regional plugs. No other accessories are needed to have a fully working data collection device!

For making life easier, a full set of software is already installed on the Lynx PDA. Pal application software offers a suite of applications commonly used in retail: Shelf Inventory, Asset Tracking, Shelf Replenishment and Order Entry. It also includes Datalogic Desktop and Configuration Utilities which offer full control over the on-device experience. Wavelink Avalanche, pre-loaded and pre-licensed, enables rapid deployment and central management of your installed base of Datalogic products.

What really makes the Lynx PDA a professional tool, compared to commercial-grade devices, is the ability to read bar codes. The Lynx PDA is not a phone or a consumer device retrofitted to occasionally scan a bar code, but a product built around a dedicated and very fast scan engine! The Lynx PDA not only offers the speed and precision of the laser for all scan-intensive applications, but also offers a state-of-the-art 2D reader used for reading more complex bar codes.

The Lynx PDA will be available in Wi-Fi configurations only in its initial release (November 2012). 3G/4G (HSPA+) models will be orderable and available in Q1, 2013.
