Posiflex has announced at the National Retail Federation 2014, booth 1355, an intelligent foldable base for its XT series of 15” touch screen terminals, now available for purchase. The sleek new fold‐flat design optimizes height and viewing angles to satisfy a variety of cashier and user viewing positions. This foldable form results in a 40% reduction in the package size and weight to reduce deployment shipping costs.

Cognex Software Update Expands Options for DataMan Readers

Cognex announced its DataMan 5.2 software release with expanded tuning and scripting capability as well as a new test mode for its popular DataMan 300 and 503 series of barcode readers. The new software significantly increases read rates by decoding lower resolution 1-D codes and extending intelligent tuning capabilities to all symbologies, including Aztec, MaxiCode and PDF417. The software release includes the high-performance Hotbars algorithm, which handles both 1-D and PDF417 barcodes.

APG Releases BluePRO Bluetooth Interface for Cash Drawers

APG BluePRO Cash DrawerAPG has officially announced the release of their new BluePRO Bluetooth interface for cash drawers. Now available for purchase, the BluePRO Bluetooth interface will enable cash drawer control via Bluetooth communication and allows retailers to wirelessly synchronize and create a one to one relationship between the cash drawer and tablet.

The BluePRO interface plugs into most printer-driven cash drawers so it can pair with a tablet via Bluetooth connection. The range of this communication is purposely limited by the BluPRO device so that retailers can be assured of having only attended cash transactions. Operating System and device agnostic, the Bluetooth interface allows retailers flexibility with devices. APG will provide the necessary software development kit for integration on the Android and iOS platforms, with a Windows solution coming soon.

SATO Awarded for 7th Consecutive Year at World Label Contest

Sato has been awarded two first prize awards in addition to the jury’s special award across three separate categories at the 25th World Label Contest. This is the seventh consecutive year Sato Printing has received awards.

In September 2013, the entries, organized by printing method into a total of 22 categories, were evaluated in the areas of design and printing capability by the contest organizing committee. Sato Printing won two awards in the letterpress category, where it received particular praise for its technical capabilities, and one award in the “Coupons/Others – All Printing Methods” category. In addition, the prize-winning label entered in this category is the first label the company has exhibited that was produced using digital printing. Sato received the award in this category partly due to the creativity it showed in using the features of digital printing, such as printing to the back adhesive side of the label, and including one design per layer in the two layers of the front side of the label.
