Understanding Datacard Ribbon Types

Posted October 3, 2012

Making sure you have the right type of ribbon for your Datacard ID Card printer is crucial to getting the most out of it. That said, it is not always very clear what the types of ribbon are for especially when acronyms like YMCKT and YMCKT-KT are used. Having the right type of ribbon for your specific needs will help reduce media costs and increase your printing efficiency.

The first concern when choosing a ribbon is if you are doing monochromatic(single color) or full color printing. Monochromatic printing is easy since the only concern is making sure the ribbon cartridge is matched to your printer model and the color you want.

Most applications, however, need to print full color cards and this is where all the acronyms start coming into play. Most commonly, cards are printed in full color on the front and are either blank on the back or only printed in black. In both of these cases there are different ribbons that should be used to print accurately and efficiently.

Fargo HDP5000 Card Printer at Work With Action Ambulance Services

Posted October 2, 2012

Action Ambulance services uses Fargo HDP5000 card printer/encoder with lamination for ID, Security and Marketing

The challenge

Action Ambulance Services provides 24-hour emergency and non-emergency medical services to the people of Eastern Massachusetts from 13 different locations. The identification cards worn by emergency personnel face challenging conditions, not only from temperature extremes and inclement weather, but also from bodily fluids, including blood, of patients being treated.

Twelve years ago, the organization began using ID cards for employee identification, but its printer was not able to laminate the cards, nor was it fast enough to keep up with the growing business. Mike Woronka, now Chief Executive Officer of Action Ambulance Services, was responsible for bringing the first ID card printer to the organization. He realized it was time for an upgrade of both the hardware and the software.

Posted October 2, 2012

CipherLab has announced their new 1861 handheld RFID reader. The 1861 handheld RFID reader is designed to provide flexibility in data collection considering RFID technology has become a complementary solution to barcode labeling. Unique from typical RFID readers, the CipherLab 1861 handheld RFID reader provides user extended RFID reading and writing capabilities via most Bluetooth mobile devices. In this way, users could enjoy hassle-free one-hand operation via single unit with high work efficiency. Additionally, it gives user the capability to read UHF (Ultra High Frequency) RFID tags in a distance up to 1 m (3 ft.), and write data up to 0.5 m (1.6 ft.) away – this makes it much easier while scanning tags on products as pallets are moved through a dock door or scanning cases on a high shelf in a warehouse.

Understanding the Value of Genuine Printer Supplies

Posted October 1, 2012

2012 09 25 1631Before purchasing supplies, buyers would do well to remember the words of Warren Buffett, a man who knows a little about buying smartly: “price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” The point is simple: it’s not the initial purchase price that ultimately matters, but rather the value delivered by the purchase. This is particularly true when it comes to printer supplies.

Genuine printer supplies are designed by OEM engineers and qualified with the printer itself as part of the research and product development process. They are developed to precise specifications, so that they perform with the printer at a consistently high level, time and time again.

Only genuine supplies:

  • Are engineered in conjunction with the printer for superior quality, performance, and reliability.
  • Fully protect your hardware investment.
  • Keep warranties beyond reproach.
  • Benefit from an OEM’s years of operational experience in the market, and with specific applications.
  • Mitigate risk of downtime due to printer failure.

Genuine supplies typically bear the imprint or endorsement of the OEM clearly on the packaging. Consulting the OEM or a recognized OEM channel partner is a sure way of verifying whether the supply you have in hand is genuine.
