Honeywell announced the Auto Identification and Data Capture’s (AIDC) most rugged hand-held area-imaging device available for industrial and commercial enterprises: the Granit 191Xi hand-held area-imaging scanner. As the leader in 2D area-imaging technology, Honeywell’s latest hand-held device combines high-performance scanning on a platform that can keep up with the most demanding conditions in the supply chain.

Granit is at the forefront of 2D Area-Imaging, which is slated to grow at more than 15 percent per year through 2016 — six points higher than the aggregate growth for all hand-held scanners in the regions, according to a report from VDC Research Group. The New Denso AT20Q Full 2D Imager

Denso, inventor of the QR Code, launched a new and more versatile AT20-Q handheld scanner, which offers high-speed scanning of both 2-D barcodes, such as the QR Code, as well as conventional 1-D barcodes.

The AT20Q features a high-speed shutter that eliminates the effect of camera shake and allows quick reading from any direction, increasing operator efficiency. Anti-reflection technology enables reliable reading of barcodes on mobile-phone LCD screens.

By combining the latest Denso algorithms with an increased number of pixels, the AT20Q provides trouble-free scanning of wide barcodes, such as those used for utility and medical bills. A newly developed scanning module easily accommodates 1-D barcodes with resolutions down to 0.125 mm and 2-D barcodes down to 0.167 mm, further extending the AT20Q’s application range.

New Expanded Functionality for the Honeywell Xenon Scanners

The Honeywell Xenon series are already some of the most aggressive and capable full 2D imagers on the market today and they continue to get better! With the new firmware update for the Xenon 1900 and the cordless 1902, a host of enhancements have been added to these scanners including additional functionally and improved bar code reading.

The new firmware update includes:

Decoder improvements – Improved reading on Data Matrix bar codes with the ability to decode Data Matrix ECC 0, 50, 80, 100, and 140.  Mirrored Data Matrix codes are also now automatically handled by the scanner.

ColorFusion Image Processing Capability – New support for processing images with a variety of image filters for all Xenon 1900/1902 Color and Color-Capable models. Filters include:  Infinity filter, Compensation, Pixel depth, Edge sharpen, Histogram stretch, Inverse filter, Noise reduction, Image rotate, JPEG image quality, Gamma correction, Image cropping ,Pixel skip, Document image filter, Blur image, and Histogram ship.

IBM Support – New enable/disable commands specified by IBM to USB and RS-485 to enable/disable: GS1, GS1 expanded, GS1 composites, PDF, MaxiCode, OCR, Data Matrix, Aztec, QR, and code 49.

Cordless enhancements – A new batch mode option to retain data until the user sends or scans a clear command.

Data formatting updates – Added ability to insert a string and to send data up to, but not including, a string.

Microscan’s C-Mount QX Hawk Imager Wins 2012 Ringier Technology Innovation Award for Packaging Industry

Microscan announcd that its C-mount design QX Hawk barcode imager has won a 2012 Ringier Technology Innovation Award in the Packaging Industry category. Microscan’s Weijiang Song accepted the award during a ceremony in Shanghai. This event was coorganized by Ringier Trade Media and its magazine International Packaging News for China, together with ProPak China 2012. Following a strict selection process by an independent judge panel, with reference to online voting results, 21 winning companies were selected for their innovative products and technologies across 5 categories, including Package Converting, Packaging Application, Packaging Materials, Package Printing and Green Packaging. The overall aim of the award is to commend the contributions of companies promoting the development of packaging industry.

At the beginning of this year, Microscan introduced a new C-mount lens configuration for two of its products: the popular QX Hawk imager and the Vision HAWK smart camera. The QX Hawk imager is ideal for industrial track and trace applications, with powerful algorithms for reading virtually all linear and 2D barcodes. The rugged Vision HAWK smart camera combines the same decode capability with a complete vision toolset to enable a broad range of inspection and identification tasks.
