KoamTac’s New KDC30 Bluetooth Scanner

KoamTac has announced the release of its new KDC30 model, an advanced miniature Bluetooth barcode scanner. Equipped with a Code imager, the KDC30/30i provide a cost-effective 1D and 2D barcode scanning solution for smartphone and tablet applications. KoamTac and Code are confident the design of this product will be a great success in all solutions, particularly in retail and healthcare environments.

Inspired by KoamTac’s uniquely designed KDC20/20i, the KDC30 is equipped with a convenient swing-out USB connector. The simplistic design eliminates the need for charging cables and promotes the use of “off-the-shelf” multi-USB charging solutions. The KDC30/30i utilizes the company’s existing KTSync application and SDK for ease of integration, and is compatible with any application designed for existing KDC models. The scanner is certified by Apple for use with iOS devices and is also compatible with Android, Blackberry, Mac, and Windows devices.

Socket Releases Updated SDK with Apple iOS 8 Support

Socket has released  the latest version of their industry leading Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Software Developer Kit, SocketScan SDK version 10.1. The latest version includes many new feature and benefits and is also compatible with Apple’s latest iOS 8 operating system.

Advanced features in the SDK include data editing and Softscan (to use the iPhone and Android built in cameras as a scanner). Featured benefits of the SDK include allowing developers to build a scanner enabled application so all of the limitations of HID mode are removed.  Other benefits include unlimited character set, end-to-end error checking, multiple cursor fields and program control for scan data placement.

AirPrint from Apple allows users to wirelessly print from iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices directly to RuggedJet 4 printers with ease. What is Apple MFi Certification and Why is it Important?

2014-07-07_0930Apple’s MFi Program (“Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad”) is a licensing program for developers of hardware and software peripherals that work with Apple’s iPod, iPad, iPad mini and iPhone, the so-called iDevices. The name is a shortened version of the original long-form Made For iPod. Companies joining the MFi program are required to pass certain requirements and certification tests. Once approved by Apple, they are able to display certain MFi-related logos on their product packaging.

Using a MFi certified receipt printer ensures full compatibility with Apple devices and an easier set-up with more features in any mobile application.

New Pop-Up iOS Keyboard using Socket Mobile Bluetooth Barcode Scanners

Many Bluetooth barcode scanners have a serious drawback when used with an iOS device due to the fact that Apple products recognize the scanner as a wireless keyboard and disable the  the built-in virtual keyboard. This essentially means that anytime you want to manually type any information you have to uncouple the Bluetooth scanner to gain access to the on-screen keyboard again.

Obviously, this is a major problem for most users and counter acts any benefits gained with the scanner.

Luckily there are some manufacturers, like Socket, that have scanners capable of acting as a HID Bluetooth device which retains the virtual keyboard functionality by double tapping the power button to allow simultaneous scanning and keystrokes.
