Mobile Tracking for Evidence Management

Posted March 22, 2012

A Strategic Solution for Law Enforcement Evidence Management

BarcodesInc offers an integrated enterprise mobility solution for governmental agencies evidence management environments. Barcodes Inc’s evidence Tracking With Information Solutions Technologies, or eTWIST, is a Windows Mobile based software, designed for the unobtrusive tracking of evidence. Our Evidence Tracking Software is perfect for law enforcement, military or private enterprise applications requiring the ability to facilitate Chain of Custody and “Protect the Truth”.

Our Evidence Tracking Software relieves resource-intensive tasks, improves accuracy and optimizes time. Using this technology for processing and collecting criminal evidence can enhance case clearance rates and potentially reduce crime rates. Many police officers are confined to a desk repeatedly entering data into back-end reporting systems or on paper, instead of out patrolling the streets. The average police agency receives about 100 cases per week; about 25 of those cases require evidence tracking, taking officers on average 2 hours to input the evidence information into back-end systems or to handwrite reports. Resulting in 50 man-hours each week, or one police officer per year, spent in front of a computer screen entering in repetitive data, often multiple times.

McAllen Police Department Reduces Dismissed Tickets by Half

Posted March 21, 2012

E-Citation Produces More Legible Tickets, Increases Revenue

About McAllen Police Department

The McAllen Police Department (MPD) serves the McAllen, Texas, metro area, with a population of about 130,000. Just five miles from the U.S.-Mexico border and the Mexican city of Reynosa (with a population of 500,000), the city’s size can grow by 200,000 to 300,000 commuters each day. The MPD employs 272 sworn officers and approximately 380 total employees.

Challenge

Like many police departments, MPD had long issued hand-written paper tickets to offenders. The manual process left room for errors in two places:

    • Point of issuance—Handwritten ticket information could be incorrect or illegible.
    • Municipal court—Administrators occasionally entered dates, locations, license numbers, or license plates incorrectly.

Leveraging Mobile Printers to Streamline Route Accounting and DSD Operations

Posted March 16, 2012

Automating route activity provides benefits both in the field and in the office by reducing the labor and time needed to enter data and process paperwork. Mobile printing is an essential element for delivering and enhancing these benefits in route accounting and direct store delivery (DSD) operations. Supporting route activity with mobile printing lets drivers generate accurate, updated orders, invoices, delivery receipts, and other documentation to review with customers to ensure correctness and efficiency.

Mobile printing provides a series of quality improvements and efficiency benefits that department managers often overlook, but can have a significant impact on the bottom line. This white paper will:

    • Describe uses for mobile printing in route accounting and DSD applications
    • Provide return on investment (ROI) examples that show the financial benefits of mobile printing
    • Demonstrate how mobile printing processes can improve distribution, billing, and customer service operations
    • Detail how on-demand thermal printing can reduce expenses
  • Provide an overview of mobile printer and wireless communications options for route accounting and DSD operations

The pages that follow show how route delivery and sales staff can take advantage of mobile printing to make more deliveries each day while improving the accuracy of each transaction.

Datalogic Power³ Parallel Processors Help Datalogic Falcon X3 and Elf Mobile Computers Run Faster and Last Longer

Posted June 16, 2011

Datalogic’s newest generation of mobile computers, the Falcon X3 and Elf PDA, deliver real time performance levels while extending battery life. How has Datalogic done this while at the same time addressing the need for converged devices with a host of technologies?

The Datalogic Power³ architecture splits the user interfacing and system level activities between two different processors. This follows a similar principle to dual core processors in modern computers. User interfacing threads go on a main processor clocked at speeds in 100s of MHz while system level tasks are managed by a co-processor running at roughly 10% of the main processor speed. This focuses the main processor on providing a maximized user interface while the co-processor handles system level items in the background.

The Datalogic Power³ parallel processor approach greatly improves user efficiency and battery life. Applications can move at the user’s speed with little to no lag time between application windows or task direction from ERP systems. An added benefit comes from device autonomy with the Power³ architecture lowering the device total cost of ownership through longer lasting batteries, both over the shift and lifetime.
