As part of an effort to help customers make sense of all of the terminology that surrounds Zebra solutions, we are launching a series of posts that will define some key terms – both industry-wide and Zebra-specific – to cut through the clutter. We’re starting with a dictionary of Link-OS terms!

Socket Releases Updated SDK with Apple iOS 8 Support

Socket has released  the latest version of their industry leading Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Software Developer Kit, SocketScan SDK version 10.1. The latest version includes many new feature and benefits and is also compatible with Apple’s latest iOS 8 operating system.

Advanced features in the SDK include data editing and Softscan (to use the iPhone and Android built in cameras as a scanner). Featured benefits of the SDK include allowing developers to build a scanner enabled application so all of the limitations of HID mode are removed.  Other benefits include unlimited character set, end-to-end error checking, multiple cursor fields and program control for scan data placement.

Socket Releases the SoMo 655 SDK

Socket has released the SoMo 655 SDK, offering developers control over several unique hardware features of the SoMo 655 handheld computer. The SDK(Software Development Kit) provides flexible control via Application Programming Interfaces so developers can optimize hardware features of the SoMo 655 for their specific application and end user environment.

Controllable hardware features supported by the SDK include:

  • WLAN and Bluetooth wireless radios
  • Socket Mobile CompactFlash barcode, RFID, and magnetic stripe readers
  • Touch screen / backlight
  • CompactFlash I/O and microSD slot management
  • Audio, visual (LEDs), and vibrate notifications
  • Audio volume and microphone
  • Bottom connector pin-outs
  • Power management / monitoring

Star Releases v3.1 of their Android SDK

The new Star Micronics Android SDK V3.1 offers four major enhancements from the previous 2.0 version. The latest Android SDK features a port discovery for both desktop (Ethernet) and mobile (Bluetooth and WiFi) printers and now has the ability to Auto Discover all Star printers on the same network as the Android device, as well as, any paired Star portable Bluetooth printers. Customers can now be given the option to enter the printer’s IP address manually or let the application find Star printers automatically. The new version also offers improved support for the Apple AirPort Express; the ability to add sample receipts; and the logical reorganization of all functionality in the sample application. V3.1 now has much more logical, simple navigation and layout to make integration faster and even easier for developers.
